Lessons are at a 2 month term of $120.00, Under 6yrs $80.00. Term fees to be paid first class of the term. No refunds if the dancer quits during the term, at anytime. Each lesson is typically 1hr long or one half hour for under 6yrs. Extra lessons $15.00.
Part 1
Introduction to Highland Dance will teach basic forms, rythm and movement. This will take approximately 4 classes (usually once per week). Appropriate dress may consist of shorts and a t-shirt (no skirts or dresses), stockings or socks. No shoes are required (but Ghillie pumps are recommended). Ballet shoes may be worn for the first few lessons but the student will have to buy a pair of Ghillie pumps eventually.
Part 2
The student will learn simple dances and begin to perform to music. The length of time for this session is dependant entirely upon the student's ability and attendance. The student must take his or her own notes as this is part of the learning process. When the student has to concentrate and write down the steps of the dance, it is more easily performed. Attire will be similar to above but at this point the student MUST have proper Highland dancing shoes (Ghillie pumps). Without the proper footware, the student cannot progress in their studies.
Part 3
The serious student will begin training for competition. More focus will be given to technique and proper attire must be bought.
INTRODUCTORY LESSON!
So that both the student and their parent ( in the case of a child) can better understand what Highland dance is about and will entail, I am offering an introductory class. For $5 for half an hour I will go through some basics with the student and answer any questions you may have. The student must come dressed appropriately to dance.
